Between the achievement of HBO’s Big Little Lies and her omnipresence at the Cannes Film Festival, Nicole Kidman has been having some fantastic luck. Presently she’s on the front of InStyle‘s June issue and explaining just how important fashion is to her.

 

“There are dreams attached to fashion. When it’s presented in a way where you go [gasp], it just makes you feel good,” she said. “It allows me to express what I’m feeling, as in, I want to wear that because that’s my rebellion right now. Or that’s my way of fitting in. Or it’s my way of saying no. Or it’s my way of saying I’m different. I grew up with a grandmother and a mother who loved clothes.”

 

Kidman has worn incalculable creator outfits and ensembles, among them her paramount yellow Dior outfit at the 1997 Oscars, yet just a couple stand out to her as uncommon. She’s giving endlessly one of the more critical things she’s ragged, the white, short-sleeve Balenciaga outfit she wore amid her 2006 wedding to spouse Keith Urban, to display in Australia called “Love.” She told the magazine: “I’ll support anything that supports love. Truly. Isn’t it the essence of everything? It can heal so many things. Good love, sweet love, kind love, gentle love, powerful love. There are so many different forms of love, which then leads to loss, which then leads to all the primary emotions. We all know children who were raised with love. You can see them.”

Still, she appreciates her recollections made with the architects who have styled her throughout the years. “I remember when I first met with John Galliano and I would see him working in Paris at Dior,” she recalled. “And also Karl Lagerfeld, all of those Chanel dresses. But then, you know, [costume designer] Janet Patterson was one of the greats. She did The Piano and The Portrait of a Lady.”

 

Red carpets may not be the only part of her job, but rather Kidman does them well. Also, if the principal half of 2017 is any sign, she’ll be walking much more in the months, and years, to come.
